Bio:
Charlie completed his bachelor's degree in Politics from the University of Leeds in 2020, focusing his thesis on the use of environmentalist rhetoric in transnational far-right discourses. Following this, he undertook postgraduate study in American Studies at Leipzig University, turning his focus towards cultural and media theory, and researching the role of cuisine (particularly coffee) in the construction of a Cold War-era U.S. national identity for his MA thesis. Moving to Berlin after his graduation, he assisted in archival research at the German Historical Institute as well as in legal philosophy research at the Hertie School. He is a regular attendee of the Center for Transcultural Studies' annual summer school at the Central European University in Budapest, and is currently trying (and failing) to learn Hungarian in his free time. At UCSB, he is exploring the intellectual history of environmentalism and cuisine in 20th century Middle Eastern nationalist movements.
