Global Higher Education in 2050: Imagining Universities for Sustainable Societies

Loma Pelona Center, UC Santa Barbara on March 4-5, 2020, between 9 am and 6 pm on both days.

What will universities be like in 30 years? What do we want them to be like? How will they vary internationally? How do we get from here to there— from the mixed bag of 2020 to higher education systems of 2050 that better serve social, environmental, and educational needs?

Scholars from Brazil, Britain, Columbia, Denmark, India, South Africa, the U.S. and other countries will meet to discuss these questions about the future of universities. Our goal is not only to list the key problems in the present but to identify features of much better higher education systems.  The papers will be short, and the discussions will be structured and intense.  If you are interested in the state of universities present and future, please join us!
