Awards and Fellowships

As part of the Racial Justice Action Plan, the Department of Global Studies appointed a Graduate Diversity and Racial Justice Fellow during the 2020-2021 academic year to advance the goals and objectives of the plan.

We also find ways to support Global Studies students who promote equal access, public service, and research on behalf of underrepresented, underserved, or vulnerable populations through Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Funds.

DEI Awards

  • In 2022-23, the Global Studies Department decided to use our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion funds to recognize graduate students who contribute to the advancement of diversity, equality and justice in areas of research and engaged scholarship. After reviewing materials from admission applications, and discussing with Global Studies faculty and staff, the DEI committee decided to award DEI grants to Ishleen Kaur, Faryal Nadeem, and Rui Zhou.

DEI Recruitment Support

  • Genesis Herrera assisted the DEI committee during the summer of 2023. Genesis’ work focused on creating recruitment materials that targeted domestic, diverse candidates and communicated our global focus on diversity and racial justice. She was awarded a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion stipend for her contributions toward furthering the diversity of the department.
